Ana Elba Borrero, Beloved Grandmother and Mother, Remembered 22 Years After Her Passing in Ossining, NY

Ana Elba Borrero passed away on January 24, 2004, after battling HIV/AIDS for 19 years. She left behind a legacy of love, resilience, and strength. Her passing, following a month-long decline, was a heartbreaking moment for her family, especially her daughter, Maria, who was left as a single mother at just 18 years old.

Ana's children had already suffered the loss of their father to the disease in 1989, leaving them to grow up without both parents. Despite the challenges, Ana's children have kept her memory alive, although they have struggled to provide a proper headstone for her resting place due to financial hardships.

Now, 22 years later, Ana's granddaughter, Marianna Santana, has launched a fundraiser to provide a gravestone in her honor. The family had relied on a neighbor to locate Ana's final resting place after the small marker they placed for her washed away over the years. In a heartfelt post, Marianna shared the family's journey, emphasizing the importance of remembering those we have lost.

As Maria, Ana's daughter, celebrated the milestone of becoming cancer-free after her own battle with breast cancer, the family hopes to fulfill Ana's wish of having a proper memorial. The community continues to support their efforts, honoring Ana’s memory and the love she gave her family.
